3 Tips To Stay Calm This Holiday Season

Christmas season is finally upon us which means the time of hot chocolate, snowy hikes, decorative lights lining the walls, candles and so, so much more. With all of those lovely things also come those few not so awaited; busier work days, longer shifts, frenzied crowds wherever you look, deadlines, and of course shopping lists. Before the holiday season heads into full swing, I’ve made a list of helpful tricks to keep you calm and grateful this holiday season!

Create A Positive Space

This has always worked for me in stressful situations. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, it’s always good to have a space where you can go to unwind and feel relaxed. Whether it’s your room, or another space that’s just your own- set aside a space that you can decorate and set up however you’d like. Creating something for yourself will also get your creativity flowing and leave you feeling productive once you’re satisfied with your positive space. Having a personal space that you can sit in and enjoy silence can be calming and inspiring, especially in times of distress.

Meditate and Breathe 

I am a strong advocate for breathing exercises, meditation and yoga. I have found great solace in these activities when my anxiety was at it’s highest, and definitely would recommend you to try it yourself too! If you’re new to yoga, Yoga With Adriene is a great place to start as a beginner. If you’d just like to start with some breathing exercises, this Elephant Journal Guide is a wonderful place to start. These steps may seem very easy and obvious, but you’ll be surprised to see how well they work if you follow through with them!

Find Time For Those Close To Your Heart

When you’re busy with school, work, or other life responsibilities, it can be easy to forget about friends and family. I find that spending time with family and friends is a great way to not only vent your frustrations and gain a clearer perspective on your problems, but it’s also a great way to learn to be a good listener and to appreciate the company of others. Those closest to us can take us outside of our stress and teach us how to enjoy what is most important when we forget how to.

  • Really good points. Somehow everything work and school related does seem to pack up towards the end of the year. I love to workout and that way forget about stress for a while. It can be anything from yoga to body combat 🙂

And your first point, creating a nice and cozy space is exactly the reason our bedroom is so minimal with no TV – it’s nice to hang out somewhere without electronics and recharge, so to speak. Your bedroom decor is so cute and now I want hot chocolate with marshmallows. (exits to kitchen)
