A Reminder For The Busy Girl

You wake up each day before sunrise to get ready for work. As you make breakfast, thoughts of the day’s to-do list run through your mind. Remember to reply to those e-mails. You’ve run out of milk. That article won’t write itself. Yoga is tonight at 8, where’s your mat again? Don’t forget to call your mother.

The list is endless and could go on forever. It seems that everywhere you look, everyone is so busy. Busy working, busy working out, busy reaching goals, busy becoming successful. Busy is the new success, and if you’re not busy you won’t be successful, and if you’re not successful, you won’t be happy. Right?

This is for the busy girl.

If you’re out there pursuing a dream that makes your heart beat faster and your eyes shine a little bit brighter, keep pushing. Pursuing our dreams is what keeps us alive, and that is something you should hold onto with everything you have. If your packed schedule simply seems like a list of things to check off, it might be time to look at why you started in the first place.

It’s easy to get lost in the distraction of being busy when everyone around you is just as busy, if not more so. Sometimes, a full schedule is a distraction from your truth. If your busyness is leading you to a seemingly endless path and your day is not filled with things that bring you joy or excitement for the future, accept this truth. Begin to remove the things that no longer serve you or make you happy to make room for those that do. If a calm day with a job you enjoy brings you happiness, then that is your truth.

Recently I’ve been unemployed, pursuing my passions and hobbies to make a possible career out of them. While I was in University, all I could think about was how wonderful it would be to have more time to pursue what I loved. Now that I’ve graduated, I look at those who are working full time with busy schedules and at times, I envy them. When I speak to those who work every single day in jobs they don’t have a passion for, I can hear the stress in their voices. Yet still I wonder, should I be working a job I don’t particularly like rather than follow my dreams- am I being unrealistic? Isn’t that what we all dream of? To spend our lives doing that what we love?

Happiness comes in all different forms. We each have our own calling and image of what we want our lives to be. If you thrive off of being busy and are working towards your goals, keep on keeping on! Just remember to try to take a breather every once in a while and remember what it is that makes you happy.

How do you stay grounded when you’re busy? I’d love to hear about your experiences!

    The view is so beautiful!

I wish I found places like this in Australia.

    • Diana Maria

Thank you Jes! There must be stunning views in Australia as well I’ve always wanted to visit xo

  • Working on your own business/passion can be a big challenge! Working for yourself, you have to set schedules, make plans, and it’s hard to shut off at night. But it’s so rewarding because like you said, the alternative is to have stress that comes from an unhappy work situation. Whereas it’s (sometimes) more of a positive stress when you’re pushing yourself on doing something you love. 🙂

Sometimes I feel like the process is baby steps. Being a piano teacher isn’t my ultimate career goal, but it’s a really good step on the journey, and I get to be my own boss. Doing that gives me money and freedom to continue exploring other passions.

This is getting long and rambly, but those are my musings! Thanks for inspiring me to think!

    • Diana Maria

Thank you Allysia, that wasn’t at all rambly you made some wonderful points! It’s great you’ve been able to do what you love and continue to follow that!

      • I appreciate that, ha ha. Thanks! 🙂

  • I can definitely relate to this. After college it was hard to find a job so I started looking into options that appealed to my hobbies. It’s still a work in progress. I recommend finding a part time job really focuses on what you’re trying to do. It leaves you time to enjoy your life but still earns you some money. :]

Thank you Carmen! That’s a great tip and something I’ve been working to do myself! Doing what you love can be so rewarding if you pursue that.

  • this is so wonderful! I agree so much! It’s pretty challenging trying to figure everything out, but just remembering to be happy is the best thing to be, and just enjoy where you are 🙂

You have written so much truth in this post. When I get busy and sometimes I do not know what to do anymore, what I do is pray… 🙂

    • Diana Maria

Thank you Jaimie, I’m glad you enjoyed this post. I agree, meditation and prayer can be so helpful in those times!

I’m in the exact same boat — working a job that I don’t particularly enjoy, but currently in the middle of a transition period where I move onto my dream career. It takes a lot of effort and patience, but I am so determined to get there.
    Keep doing you 🙂

    • Diana Maria

Thank you Alexandra, I will definitely check out your blog as well! I wish you luck in pursuing your dream career that’s wonderful that you have an opportunity to do so! xo

  • Nadia

I came here from a lovely comment you left on my blog, girlie, and wow, I am in love with your blog! I thoroughly enjoyed this post & followed you on all possible social platforms 😉
This post hits home with me since we recently relocated for my hubby’s job and I am starting things all over again from scratch. So yeah, your thoughts on busy lifestyle, happiness and figuring things out your own way are lovely.
I think no matter what we have to be true to ourselves. Even though I feel the same way sometimes about some people who are “oh so busy” in their intense workplace, I do understand that some of them aren’t happy there one bit. To each their own. I will be pursuing the right path which works for me 😉

Really great post. I am always so busy that my head is constantly spinning, but I try to also take time to relax and try to actually unpack all the things that are going on in my life.

    • Diana Maria

      Thank you Becky!

  • I just graduated University recently too and now looking for a job. It’s nice to have free time to pursue my passions, but I would like a steady income as well. I suppose it’s about making the most of the resources you have and creating opportunities. Lovely photos by the way 🙂

  • This is such a beautiful post Diana, I completely agree that it’s so easy to get swept up in the world of Busy and accept it as the norm when you see everyone around you feeling and doing the same. It’s so encouraging to see that you’ve taken a step back and decided to pursue your passions and dreams, even though it might be easier to just take a job you don’t enjoy to make ends meet. You’re truly inspiring girlie, keep up the hard work!
