Daily Kindness: A Book For Self-Care

daily kindness photography

“The most authentic thing about us is our capacity to create, to overcome, to endure, to transform, to love, and to be greater than our suffering” -Ben Okri

When Trish Collins reached out to me to review Daily Kindness by National Geographic, I leaped at the chance. I knew I had found my match the minute I read the title of this book. No other book has reflected my values and aspirations so clearly. This book could not have come at a better time in my life, and I cannot wait to share it with you.

What Is Daily Kindness?

Daily Kindness: 365 Days of Compassion is a beautifully curated collection of inspiring quotes for each day of the year. Spiritual seekers and philosophers have shared their words of wisdom to help you lead a more mindful life. These raw words of advice are strong rooted reminders of how to live an enriched, authentic and kind life.

“You cannot live life when you are untouchable. Life is vulnerability” -Edouard Boubat

Each month, you will practice a new virtue. Some of these virtues include patience, authenticity, gratitude and strength. It acts as a guide to keep you grounded through the flight of life. Staying kind in the midst of our chaotic lives is not always a simple task.

“If it is right, it happens- The main thing is not to hurry. Nothing good gets away” -John Steinback

My Honest Thoughts

When I first received this book in the mail, I was taken aback by it’s small, dainty size. It may be small, but it is mighty. Daily Kindness is heavy with thought provoking words to inspire its readers. Since Daily Kindness is by National Geographic, the photos in this book live up to their profound accompanying quotes. This book’s photography is a mesmerising display of captivating natural scenes from corners across the globe.

The quality of the book itself is wonderful. The photos are top tier quality, and there’s even a small string bookmark to help you keep track of where you are in your journey.

“The purpose of our lives needs to be positive. We weren’t born with the purpose of causing trouble, of harming others. For our life to be of value… we must develop basic good human qualities- warmth, kindness, compassion. Then our life becomes meaningful and more peaceful- happier” -Dalai Lama XIV

What I’ve Learned

Since reading this book, I have been able to find a sense of clarity in many aspects of my life. There is great weight to these short but carefully chosen quotes.

Daily Kindness is a celebration of the big and small moments of life. I was not expecting to find such a moving message within each chapter of this book. I am so glad that I did. Each page is an uplifting reminder to spread joy, gratitude and love through our daily lives.
